G-SPOT - Come Here, Go Away  Gail Silverman comes accross as a modern interpretation of Johnny Rotten made up in fishnet, wearing heels, on a drunken rock n roll rampage to fuck shit up. Her band blasts from gutter punk to big riff sing-along pop parody. Towards the end they even prove they can chill out to a stoned groove. Come Here, Go Away sets the standard for NY homegrown variety during the 2005 season. The wait was worth it for a thirteen song set that creates it's own identity through coloraton of emotion (Over You, Even The Mighty Fall), tears it to pieces (Revolutionary) suffers agony (Hurts Like This) chills out in the smoke room (Hey Creator) where the end set for the album is set to introspection (Believe In Us, Call On You). All this ends with Gail telling us we gotta funk when the groove is hot (Piece Of....), hit that damn G-Spot, before its Triple Mantra Meditation time. Sounding like the illegitimate child of Blue Cheer and The Stooges, Chop Suzy bring the grit with monster riffs and a heritage derived straight from the old blue shooting gallery in ancient Hollywood. First off, "Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda" is beyond infectious, making even those not wasted wanna get up and play the fool. While the mix may definitely be homebrew (like alot of other good "shit" that is made in a Hollywood basement), it's a tad above complete lo-fi, brewing punkabilly with acid blues licks to produce masterpieces of the wasteland (check out "Sexpot"). Chop Suzy is what Jerry Lee Lewis would sound like if he came out today, and played a mean guitar, pretty fuckin' cool! Contact: http://www.chopsuzymusic.com, chopsuzy@chopsuzymusic.com, 1324 1/2 N. BLIGHT - Kiss Me I'm Sick  First heard from thse guys in early '04. Blight has alot to like; freak outs, screamed melodies, lots of crunch and big beats.....still, they ape Nirvana way to much to be called original. Some of the riffs are direct steals, not really even changing it up much. This whole album could be a combination of Bleach and Floating Baby Dollars (remember that one? one the biggest albums ever?). Blight does have great punk melodic sense and heaps of drive....just like to see them refine their songs with tunesmith creativity. Right now, they're Cobain recometh.
